About the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association
For everyone who owns, breeds, or cares about the Stabyhoun.
The Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association was founded in 2006 to represent Stabyhoun owners and breeders in the United States and Canada. We are a recognized partner of the Dutch Stabij and Wetterhoun Association, the organization that has governed the breed since its formal recognition. That relationship shapes everything we do, from how we advise on breeding decisions to how we track the health of every Stabyhoun in North America.

We uphold the Dutch standard in North America.
The ASA is one of seven daughter clubs formally recognized by the NVSW, the Dutch association that has overseen the Stabyhoun since the breed’s official recognition. Together, these clubs share health data, coordinate breeding decisions, and maintain a database of more than 18,000 Stabyhouns worldwide. That global cooperation is what makes responsible breeding possible for a breed this rare.
Most of what we do happens before a puppy is ever born.
Every litter in North America starts with a breeding decision, and our Breeding Advisory Committee helps breeders make it well. They review pairings against the Dutch standard and ASA’s Code of Ethics, so every ASA puppy arrives with an FCI pedigree and a healthy start.
We also help people get the most out of life with their Stabyhoun. Members volunteer to coach training, from puppy basics to sport and performance.
We bring owners together. ASA runs sanctioned matches, national specialty shows, and regional gatherings where Stabyhouns and their people meet.
And we keep knowledge moving, through online education and a community where a new owner’s question reaches someone who has answered it before.

Stand by the breed that stands by you.
The ASA welcomes Stabyhoun owners and anyone who loves the breed to join. Members keep the health tracking, the breeding guidance, and the gatherings going, and make new friends doing it.
Staby people tend to be a lot like their dogs. Patient, a little independent, and loyal for the long haul. It takes that kind of person to look after a breed this rare, and the ones who do tend to stay.
Membership is also how you go deeper. Members can breed under the ASA program, vote on the club’s direction, and gather with other owners at specialties and events across North America.
Membership is $35 a year.
The ASA runs on its volunteers.
Every part of the ASA is run by owners who give their time. The Board sets the club’s direction and carries the club’s relationship with the Dutch parent association. Four committees do the work that keeps Stabyhouns healthy and owners connected.
The Breeders Advisory Committee guides breeders through pairing decisions and works directly with the Dutch advisors to protect the breed’s health.
The Education and Training Committee helps owners with everything from puppy behavior to dog sports, so Stabyhouns get the mental and physical work they need.
The Communication Committee puts out the newsletter and calendar, runs the club’s social media, and raises the breed’s profile across North America.
The Membership Committee keeps the record of every known Stabyhoun in North America and welcomes new owners, members or not.

The Member Hub is where members connect.
Member guides, breeder tools, owner resources, newsletters, and the people behind it all.
