Find a Staby
We help the right families find the right dog.
Stabyhoun puppies are not available on demand. With fewer than 10,000 in the world, every litter is planned carefully and every placement is intentional. ASA is part of this process not to make it harder, but to make sure it works for the puppy, the breeder, and you.

How It Works
1
Apply
Tell us about your household and what you are looking for. Breeders use your answers to find the right match.
2
Connect
We introduce you to owners and dogs near you so you can experience the breed firsthand.
3
Match
When a litter is ready, the breeder identifies the best fits from the waitlist based on your answers and flexibility.
4
Confirm
The breeder reaches out. Say yes and your puppy is coming home. If the timing is off, you stay on the list.

A rare breed requires more than good intentions.
Most Staby still live in the Netherlands, where the national breed club maintains the international registry and manages the breeding program that ASA works alongside. Every ASA-approved breeding considers not just the health of the individual dogs, but what it means for the genetic diversity of the entire breed.
ASA breeders follow a Code of Ethics that requires health screening for hip and elbow dysplasia, temperament evaluation, and approval from the Breeder Advisory Committee before any litter is planned. This is how a rare breed stays healthy across generations.
Puppies placed through ASA come with a pedigree from the American Kennel Club Foundation Stock Service, making each dog part of the official international record. Traceable, registered, and contributing to the breed’s future.
Good matches take time.
While you are on the waitlist, breeders are evaluating upcoming litters, assessing temperaments, and thinking carefully about each family they are considering. You are not waiting in a queue. You are part of an active process.
Most families receive a match within a few years. Flexibility helps. Applicants open to either sex and willing to travel or transport typically move faster. The option of importing a puppy from Europe to help expand the gene pool currently does not exist due to the CDC rules. Let the Puppy Intermediary know when you apply if you would be willing to import a 6 month old puppy from abroad.
ASA asks waitlist applicants to check in quarterly. It takes two minutes and keeps your application current. It also tells breeders you are still engaged and ready.
ASA connects prospective owners with members in their area for a “hands on” visit whenever possible. Not a polished introduction, but a real one. Some people visit and decide the breed is not right for them. That is understandable. Most visit and cannot imagine any other breed.

When the right match is ready, you will hear from us. Your place on the list is secure.
Let’s get started.
The waitlist questionnaire takes about 15 minutes. Take your time with it. Breeders read every answer carefully.
