Judges and breeders use the standard to evaluate the Stabyhoun’s structure and movement.
A Stabyhoun is built for work, not for show.

A functional and powerfully built pointing dog. The body is slightly longer than its height at the withers. The overall picture is neither too robust nor too fine. The skin fits tightly. The feathering on chest, collar, forelegs, trousers, and tail gives the Stabyhoun the impression of being long-haired, but the coat shouldn’t be excessively long. Sex should be unmistakable.
At-A-Glance

Slightly longer than tall
A dog 50 cm at the withers measures roughly 55 cm from breastbone to sit bone. About 10% longer.

Consider a balanced front end
Front legs, floor to elbow compared to elbow to withers.
Using the same evaluation tool worldwide

All Stabyhoun organizations consider the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) standard, written by the Dutch Stabyhoun and Wetterhoun Association (NVSW), as the authoritative source to evaluate Stabyhouns everywhere.
Each section below presents a standard region along with some notes from ASA that help judges and breeders evaluate the dogs.
