Board & committees

ASA is run entirely by volunteers, owners who took on the work of keeping a rare breed healthy and its people connected.

The Board

Charlie Hite

President

Charlie leads the board and represents the ASA across the North American community. He shares his home with several Stabyhouns, including BamBam, who is on the club’s breeding list, and a dog in the outcross program.

Cindy Pfister

VP

Cindy supports the president and has served the ASA in many roles since 2009, from the BAC to Staby rescue. She is a dog trainer and behavior consultant who works in nosework, tracking, and field with her own Stabyhouns.

Phil Frey

Treasurer

Phil manages the club’s finances, a role he also held from 2013 to 2016. He and his wife fell for the breed in 2013 with their Stabyhoun Provo, who shares their Texas ranch with two other dogs.

Erin Hoverson

Secretary

Erin keeps the board’s records and meeting minutes. Her Stabyhoun Shadow took Best of Winners at the 2019 National Specialty, and the two compete together in AKC agility.

Becky Bryden

member-at-large

Becky brings West Coast and Canadian representation to the board from her home in Burnaby, BC. She has owned her Stabyhoun Ginny since 2021 and is expecting her first litter.

Committees

Breeders Advisory Committee

Purpose: To guide ASA breeders through pairing decisions and stay in close contact with the Dutch advisors to keep up with developments in the breed worldwide. They weigh health, temperament, and genetic diversity in every match, and maintain the health database for North American Stabyhouns.

Education and Training Committee

Purpose: To help owners give their Stabyhoun the mental and physical work they need. It runs in three groups: behavior help for manners and anxieties, puppy development for dogs three to twelve months, and sports and performance coaching across activities like agility, scent work, and field work.

Communication Committee

Purpose: To keep members informed and raise the breed’s profile. They produce the annual calendar and three newsletters a year, run the club’s Facebook and Instagram, and publish articles for owners and dog lovers everywhere.

Membership Committee

Purpose: To maintain the record of every known Stabyhoun in North America, members and non-members alike, and share it with the Dutch association to keep the worldwide population count current. They welcome new owners, connect members with new puppies, and turn no one away, including people with “look-alike” mixed breed rescues that resemble our pedigreed Stabys.
